The Off-Season Is On!
BREAKING NEWS: The first look at Compensation - Outgoing and Incoming - is complete for
pitchers.
First off, let's look back. No, not to 2009 in particular (although really, we could talk about the Stars all day, couldn't we?), but to the BVLL's first decade.
Ten completed seasons. Six of the original 14 managers still around. (Those would be Bill, Jeff, Wayne, Chris, Mike, and Bob.) But we have other longtimers as well: Miles has been in 8 years, John 7, Derek 7, Mitch 5, Tim 4, and then you "new" guys...
Why has the BVL survived - and thrived - while many leagues have folded after a year or two? Who knows? Who cares? It works. No dynasties, everybody shares the workload, minimal league turmoil. A recipe for success.
Exec Committee update. Tim's 3-year sentence is up and is replaced by Miles, with Dave moving up a notch and Chris taking over as Chair. Rumor is that dues have been raised to $1,000 per team to re-stock the Vegas beer drinking budget for 2011.
Leg Lottery. We are fast approaching that time again. By tradition the dice go into The Leg on New Year's Eve, and the results are released one per day starting January 1. Here's what the Lottery looks like this year, along with their dice chances (out of 36):

5. Galway (from Milwaukee) 4
6. Bergen 3
7. Jersey (from Orleans) 2
8. Falls Church 1
Since Jersey is the only team with two picks, they actually move up to 8 chances total, tying them for the league high. Two recurring Leg Lottery themes: the top team NEVER ends up drafting first (that would be bad luck for Dave and Mike), and Bergen ALWAYS jumps up (that would be good luck for Mitch).
Range Ratings. They are out (and usually pretty accurate). Who got screwed?
Everybody coming back for 2010?
VEGAS 2011 – It’s never too early to start planning. Mike already has the weekend picked out and it’s sure to be a lot more fun than sitting alone in your basement (again).
