HEATING UP THE HOT STOVE

* Congrats to Tim and the Falls Church Friars on their 2010 BVL Championship! And to Mitch and the Bullies for a great season. And while we're at it, congrats to the league at large for completing an 11th season...

* The BVL prides itself on being competitive, and no repeat champs since 2005 would support that. But there does seem to be a power vortex: only three teams (Falls Church, Lake County, and Hollywood) have combined to capture the past 7 league championships...

* The Friars win is Tim's second but actually the franchise's third (Purchase Area, 2002, thanks to The Previous Tim). The three championships match Hollywood for the top all-time spot...

* The 2011 season kicks off with the traditional Leg Lottery on New Year's Eve, with the picks revealed from Jan. 1-7. Hollywood holds a slight mathematical edge over Tennessee for the top pick, although The Leg, being a hollowed out hunk of wood, isn't a math guy...

* Between now and Dec. 31: the league trophies will be updated and (upon request) shipped out. The most consequential league event is the passing of the Exec Committee torch. Chris moves up and out and will undoubtedly be writing his memoirs and making the talk show circuit. Dave moves up and into the Big Chair for the first time and we'll see how he puts his own touch on the league. Then there's Miles in the middle and a soon-TBD newbie...

* VEGAS2011 (aka the 12th Annual Rookie Draft, aka The SuperDraft) will be hosted by Mike at THEHotel at Mandalay Bay on Saturday, March 19, smack dab in the midst of a March Madness weekend. Come, won't you?
